Not Everyone Will Like Your Work, and That’s Perfectly Fine!
Kind words matter, not everyone will like your work, and that’s okay. Stay true to your vision, embrace the journey, and never let unkind opinions dim your spark.
As an architect and interior designer, I share my work regularly, because how else will people know what I do, what I stand for, and what I’m capable of?
Recently, out of the blue, I received a message on Instagram from someone I worked with over a decade ago:
“I don’t like your work, Naseema.”
No hi. No hello. Just that one sentence.
To be honest, it didn’t shake me. I simply replied,
“My clients like my work. If you don’t, that’s okay, you’re not my client.”
But the message did make me pause and reflect.
It reminded me of something I wish more people understood:
✨ If you’re just starting out, whether it’s your career, your dream, or your passion project — know this:
The journey will be long.
It will be challenging.
It will demand more from you than you thought you had.
You won’t become “perfect” overnight, and you’re not supposed to.
It’s a beautiful, chaotic journey of self-development, confidence, and constant improvement. You’ll make mistakes, feel lost, and meet people who judge you without knowing a single chapter of your story. Some will throw unkind words just because they carry darkness in their hearts, and misery loves company.
But don’t let their shadows dim your spark.
Hold onto your dreams, your fire, your goals, even when the world around you is full of noise.
🌟 You may or may not reach exactly where you planned to, but trust me, the journey will make you someone worth becoming.
Being a mother of two, juggling responsibilities, deadlines, and dreams, it’s not easy. But my passion? It keeps me going. Even when the dots don’t connect, I still draw the next line.
So here’s what I want you to remember:
Don’t listen to the world.
They’ll say what they want.
Listen to your heart, it knows exactly where you’re headed.
Your ambition, your vision, your drive, they’re yours alone. Don’t let them die just because of someone whose opinion doesn’t deserve a seat at your table.
🌸 And to those who feel the need to critique others. Please, be kind with your words.
You never know what storm the other person is silently navigating. A kind word costs nothing, but an unkind one? It can damage more than you’ll ever see.
If you can’t be kind, at least… be quiet.
(Even silence has more grace than bitter honesty without compassion.)
To anyone chasing something meaningful:
Keep going. You’re not alone. You’re not failing. You’re just growing. 🌱
And growth, my friend, takes time.
KINDNESS IN CRITICISM
